HYPNOSIS AND HYPNOTHERAPY
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of mind. When accessed, it helps increase our response to positive suggestion, allowing new responses, thoughts, attitudes, behaviours and feelings to flourish.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis is a feeling of deep relaxation of both mind and body, while a state of heightened awareness is maintained. It is expressed as being a very peaceful and enjoyable sensation. The best description is that you are fully aware, feel extremely tranquil, yet focused.
When hypnotised am I in control?
Yes, you are in control throughout. You cannot be hypnotised against your will, hypnosis works only if you agree to let it happen. Clinical hypnosis has no relationship to stage hypnosis shows that you may have seen. Clinical Hypnotherapists are bound by a Code of Ethics ‘to work in a way that promotes the client’s autonomy and well-being and that maintains the respect and dignity of the client’ (GHR, Code of Ethics).
